The Photo Tools I Use In 2023
Photography is ultimately about the photos we produce. Photographers use lots of tools to create images - cameras, lenses, filters, tripods, and yes, software, to make those images. The photos we each produce are unique and often is the case that our workflows to create those images are equally unique.
I am asked often what software tools I use and why. To answer that question, I need to give you a brief history of photo software usage over the last 10+ years. My workflow in 2023 didn’t just materialize … it grew, shifted, changed, and meandered as my photography grew … and as industry changes caused ripples to my workflow. At a very high level, my core photo workflows have been:
Circa 2013; Apple Aperture and the ON1 Perfect Photo Suite
Circa 2023; Adobe Lightroom and ON1 Effects
Yet there is a lot more surround. As the graphics below suggest, there are more tools involved in my photography, both currently and in my past. Watch the video as I describe the photo tools I’ve used, how I’ve landed on the tools I use today, and why I’m not looking to migrate my core workflow anytime soon.
