Kamakura Shrines
If you visit Tokyo, a day trip to the Kamakura Prefecture is well worth it. The soribachi (arched bridge) and torii (gate) above are on the grounds of the Tsurugaoka Hachiman-gū shrine - the historical center of Kamakura city. Now a Shinto shrine, it was once also a Buddhist temple.
There's also a Daibatsu (Great Buddha) in the area as well - you've probably seen pictures of it. And many other temples and shrines. Most are within walking distance of the main train station. A walking tour of Kamakura is a great way to spend a morning, afternoon, or both.
